Can diabetic patient eat all fruit types without any effect on blood glucose level?
Studies revealed that fresh fruit is very important to diabetic patients; as it has low caloric content; and rich in fibers; vitamins, water; minerals and antioxidants.
Some other studies revealed that eating certain types of fruits like apple; blueberry, banana… etc. helps in decreasing the incidence of diabetes mellitus type II.
The researchers reported that diversification between fruit selection is preferable for diabetic patients; provided that not exceeding the recommended daily plan.
Also, it’s preferred eating the whole fruit and avoiding fruit juice; as fruit juice usually contains more sugar and less organic fibers.
On the same side fruit jam; sweets and soft drinks should be avoided due to its high sugar content.
Pears and apple are considered to be the best fruit choice; as they contain high amount of fibers which protect against cardiac disease; regulate gastrointestinal movement.
The soluble fibers alter intestinal absorption of the glucose, which helps in regulation of blood glucose level.
Also eating fruit rich in antioxidants as berries, pomegranate and kiwi protects against cell damage; especially in diabetic patients.
So one fruit meal gives you about 15 gm. of sugar, the examples of this meal may include one of the following:
- 1 lemon, 1 peach, 1 apple and 1 pear.
- ½ banana, tangerine mango and ½ pumley.
- 2 kiwi, 2 Persimmon, 2 peach and 2 tangerine.
- ½ cup of grape.
- Cup of melon, cup of Cranberry and cup of berry.
- 3 dried dates, 4 dried apricots, 3 dried peaches and 2 table spoons of raisin.
