Treadmills

Sports coach Alma Keder highlights common errors committed while walking on the treadmill :

Doctors that commonly treat sports related injuries see injuries pertaining to exercising on a treadmill just as frequently as those caused when practicing any particular sport. While walking or jogging on a treadmill feels like it would be relatively safe, as practicing a sport often means competing against someone, injuries do occur just the same. In the field of sports medicine, prevention is just as important as treatment. As such, specialists will do what they can to educate their patients in the proper form when using a treadmill, as applying proper form is the best way to avoid injuries and accidents. Let’s take a look at a few pointers here:

Treadmills

1. Wearing inappropriate shoes, especially with high heels, which causes back pain. The “treadmill” requires your custom sneakers for walking.

2. Looking at the shoes while walking, which might upset the balance of the body.

3. Holding onto the machine, which drives the body to relax, thus not benefiting from exercise.

4. Rounding back. Note that the correct walking boils down to keeping the back straight, with moving hands.

5. Walking throughout the exercise, without any change in the rates of speed.
